Fun Picks for Thanksgiving Children’s Books

November 26, 2013 by gravitybread Filed Under: Books and Mealtime, Fun Food Books

Thanksgiving is a perfect time to introduce your child to new books and discuss the meaning of Thanksgiving. Why not introduce some new books during Thanksgiving dinner or over Thanksgiving leftovers? There are so many Thanksgiving books out there, so how do you choose? Here are some that I have recently read to my own kids:

thanksgiving dayThanksgiving Day by Gail Gibbons is a wonderful book to read to your little one ages 4 and up. Both my kids and I enjoyed the bright illustrations and simple text. Thanksgiving can be a complex holiday to understand but I think this book explains it pretty well in terms that an older preschooler and kindergartner can understand.

granola farmGranola Farm is an interesting take on Thanksgiving. If you are a vegetarian and raising your children to be vegetarians, this is the book for you! This book will inspire you to have a vegetarian Thanksgiving. My kids (who are not vegetarians) enjoyed the book and learned what a vegetarian is. I also took the opportunity to discuss what a vegan is. Great for opening up some interesting conversations. Ideal for ages 4 and up.

charlie brown thanksgiivngWho can ever resist Snoopy?  I grew up with Charlie Brown and so I naturally gravitate towards anything Charlie Brown/Snoopy related. A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving begins with Charlie Brown preparing to go to his Grandmothers house for Thanksgiving. Peppermint Patty invites herself over to Charlie Brown’s house. What does Charlie Brown do? He decides to make a dinner of jelly beans, pretzels and popcorn!
