Are you looking for board board that can help facilitate language? Check out these recently released board books!

Board books are ideal for reading with your young child? How do you even begin choosing? Check out my article here!

When working with young children, I love introducing new books and concepts. Board books are ideal for this since they are easy to manipulate and immediately engage children because of the bright colors and often interactive features.

When introducing a new book to your child, read the cover and describe the picture of the cover. For example, when introducing, Is That Your Dad? say, “We are going to read a book about animals. What animal do you see on the cover?” You can also comment about descriptive concepts such as “Who is bigger? The frog or lion?”

Is That Your Dad? by Carles Ballesteros

Is That Your Dad? is an ideal book to introduce your child to the concept of questions. On each page, there is a question such as “Is that your dad, Froggy? and then a response. The child gets to interact with the book by turning the page and seeing the face change. If your child doesn’t answer, a parent can model the answer by saying “No, I see a lion. This is not Froggy’s daddy.” Have fun with this book by seeing all of the changing faces and encouraging your child to comment. Make it even more interactive by imitating some of the faces that your child sees on each page? A great game to take this further is MimiQ Card Game. To learn more about this game, click here.

Kindness Rules! by Eunice Moyle and Sabrina Moyle

Eunice and Sabrina Moyle are the creators of Hello! Lucky, a woman owned company that creates products that inspire creativity, positive energy, humor and kindness. I was so interested in learning about this duo when visiting their website and learning about their inspiration business here.

Kindness Rules is a colorful and beautifully illustrated book that helps teach young children basic etiquette rules in a playful and fun way. Each page is a lesson in itself about various rules of etiquette such as saying “Hello” when meeting someone new, taking turns with a friend, treating others fairly and kindly, saying “please”, and using your words appropriately. This book is full of teachable moments that should be not only taught during book reading but also carried over during other activities such as playing a game and having play dates! The most important lesson about this book is the Golden Rule about “treating others the way you want them to treat you”. If we can teach this at a young age, we are optimizing our children to be kind and empathetic. To learn more about kindness and research, click here.
